The lyrics (or words) of a song usually follow a structure. Different parts of the structure are identifiable, and have specific names. These include:
The parts above all relate to the lyrics. In other words, they usually have words. There are other parts in a song which usually do not have words. You have already been introduced to two of them, namely the
intro and
outtro. These other parts of the song include:
- Intro
- Outtro
- Interludes & Riffs
- Breakdown
A song does not have to have all these parts in its structures. For instance, some songs do not have a chorus, and many do not have breakdowns.
